Hello there!

I just stumbled upon this video where the subtitles are added as "american sign language", but obviously are just plain english (i wouldnt know how to subtitle in ASL, but that's another issue; i think one should be able to add a semi transparent video with an asl translater, but i guess this bursts the frame of

Is there a way to change this, or should i download the subtitles and upload them as english again? Is there a way to delete subtitles as a whole? Are there Moderators who have the ability to do so?

Thanks, this is fixed now. This has happened more than once with ASL videos and we're working on a fix.

Hi there, I’ve got somewhat different but similar problem to this. When you add subtitles as new subtitles rather than a translation, you can’t change this after that. That means that I haven’t found a way how to do the step of creating subtitles rather than translation back. Then you have to do your own timing etc. and cannot use the one in e.g. original English subtitles.

Particularly we have this problem with Slovak subtitles here in this video:

It is not a translation but should be. The user who started this Slovak translation didn’t notice that there is some other way of starting a translation so he started new subtitles. Now we can’t change it.

Sorry for the delay with replying.

Unfortunately, if the subtitle track has its own timing, it cannot be converted to a dependent translation from another language that shares the common timing with that language. (You can, however, do it the other way around - translate subtitles and then make timing independent.)

If for some reason it is absolutely imperative that Slovak and English subtitles share the same timing, you can try starting a new version of Slovak by translating from English and paste Slovak lines into the edit fields for translated lines. Sorry if this method is not very convenient, given the length of the transcript.

    Best regards and happy subtitling,
