Modifying existing subtitles

I created German subtitles for the following video:

http://www.universalsubtitles.org/de/videos/XOrtWFAi0c5J/info/Intro...

They were correctly displayed afterwards, but since I noticed during translation that the original English subtitles (created by an automatic subtitling bot) contained some bad mistakes (e.g. "anagram model" instead of "N-Gram Model"), I decided to correct some mistakes in the English subtitles afterwards. After I did so, all the German translations were gone again, and I couldn't recover them.

Can they be restored somehow? Shouldn't there be a warning that this might happen?

    Hi,

The revision history for English subtitles contains an edit and a subsequent rollback to a previous version, both made by you. Did you really choose to make this rollback or it just happened by accident?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi,

    thanks for your answer!

I did do a rollback on the things I fixed in the English version (only
some words), because after I submitted those changes, my whole German
translation disappeared (100% for more than 8 minutes of video), and I
hoped I might be able to access it again by reverting the changes to the
English version. But it didn't work out, so I decided to wait for an
answer first, before I break something else. I can see that I created the
German subtitle in my edit history, but it's down to 0% again and all the
subtitles disappeared. Before my edit on the english version, the German
subtitle was fully submitted, displayed with a green dot and 100%
progress, and I could select it with the language selector.

    Best,
    Henning Otte

    Hi Henning,

Thank you very much for your input, it contained some really valuable information.

As for the reason for your translation to become unavailable, it is yet to be investigated, but the good news is that your work is not lost - here is the file containing the German translation that was stored in our database. It can be uploaded to the video, if you like; just please be careful to choose the correct language (German) as you do it.

Rollback, especially on the original subtitles, can be a very harmful action to any dependent (translated) subtitle tracks, so it better be used sparingly. If you see something strange or unexpected, it may be a good idea to ask here.

Sorry for the trouble with the disappearing translation! Our developers will look into this issue.

    Best regards,
