Subtitle Placement

When on the third step refining the subtitles, I was able to drag the subtitle to the top of the screen. In payback the new placement only lasted for half of the subtitles moved, then when save to for the final copy none of the subtitles were place at the top.

Was it a fluke that I could move them or are you working on a way to change placement?

It is very helpful to be able to move the subtitles to the top when graphics are placed at the bottom of the screen. I hope that it is a feature that you are working to reform.

Overall the process was very easy and a success.

    Hi Marianne,

Thank you for using UniversalSubtitles.org as well as for sharing your experience with us. We really appreciate your input.

Just to make sure that I understood the issue you reported correctly, could you please confirm or deny that:

    1. You noticed the abnormal behaviour while doing Step 3 of creating/editing subtitles (Review and make corrections).

    2. You were able to drag a few lines above the video player and drop them there.

    3. Of the subtitle lines (blocks) you dragged and dropped, only half stuck above the video player.

Could you please try doing the same thing with the same video and see if you observe the same effect? (You do not need to save any changes to your subtitles if you don't want to - just close the subtitling dialog afterward and choose to discard any changes if prompted.)

If you can reproduce this behaviour, I would greatly appreciate any detail that could help us do the same - the operating system and browser you use, the link to the particular video and language, what exactly you were doing, etc.

Thank you very much in advance! I am looking forward to hearing from you.

I repeated the process this morning and it happened just as it did
yesterday. I will give as many details as I can.

I am using Windows 7 Enterprise at a University. Both Mozilla and
Chrome (the two browsers that I tried) are up to date. I will say, I
did all the creating in Mozilla and only tried Chrome for display (to
    see if things were different).

So when in the third step of refining, I am able to move the subtitles
to the top of the frame by drag and drop. For the first four minutes I
did this while the video was in play mode without pausing. From the
four minute mark on I paused the video moved the subtitle then
selected play again. I played/paused using the on-screen buttons not
    the keyboard shortcuts.

Occasionally while making these adjustments the next caption (after
the one I just moved to the top) would appear at the top of the screen
without having to move it myself. When this happened was inconsistent.
It did not, for instance, consistently stay topside until I moved it
back down. It did not always move down after the appearance of
punctuation such as a period or comma. And I don't believe that it
consistently moved down say like after three topside fourth is down
(though I will be honest that I watch punctuation far more closely
    than number of captions).

If I skipped back 8 sec. to review my work the captions were almost
always (90%) back to the bottom even if I had moved them. So I would
    move them again.

When I did a final play through in the step three module, the captions
had not changed position at all and only appeared on the bottom
(yesterday they did display on top but not consistently). When saved
as the final step the captions only appear at the bottom both
    yesterday and today.

I hope this information is helpful.

    Hi Marianne,

Thank you very much for such a detailed description.

Yes, subtitles are draggable around the video player frame (at least, in some Web browsers), but this feature is incomplete, and at this time the custom subtitle position cannot be memorized and reproduced by the software.

As of now, we cannot yet say when the subtitle position will be made customizable. Sorry for any inconvenience the delay with implementation may cause.

Again, thank you for your input, which we appreciate.
